God Sighting | February 28th, 2008
In the past week or so, God has been strongly impressing on me the utmost importance of dependence on Him through prayer and esteeming of His word above all else. I'd been watching a documentary on Hillsong United and was flabbergasted to learn that Hillsong church was started in 1993. It's a local church in Sydney, Australia, that has had an undeniable, inspiring impact on the world, locally and globally. Churches all across the world sing songs composed by people who are a part of Hillsong church. The church I'm currently a part of was started in 1966, but the perceived impact that my local church has had on the world contrasted with the perceived impact that Hillsong has had is stark. In terms of financial resources, man power, and technology, the difference between the two churches in negligible. What's the difference then? I'm convinced that the difference lies in the degree of our dependence (or lack thereof) on God's power to do God's work and an esteeming of His word above all else, for it's the only reason for how we can know the nature of God's work.
This past week, the team I work with had committed ourselves to real, genuine, dependent prayer for the Lord to accomplish His good work in our midst, and for His word to be continually esteemed above all else. And last night during our youth program, He made Himself known in a powerful way that was undeniable by all who were present. Everyone knew it. I even got a phone call from a youth leader who exclaimed, "IT WAS AWESOME ON TOP OF AWESOME!!!"
